Bandai Namco Entertainment, IBM, and Kadokawa have teamed up to create something that we never expected to actually happen: a Sword Art Online VRMMORPG. The new VRMMORPG—called Sword Art Online: The Beginning—is powered by IBM's SoftLayer cloud service and IBM Watson, "a technology platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data."
An Alpha test will be held from March 18th to March 20th. Don't get too excited, though, as the Alpha will only be open to 208 selected participants who must then visit an undisclosed location in Tokyo. If you can in fact make it to the test session, you can sign up for a chance at participating on the website.
It is already being theorized that this project is just a Sword Art Online-themed test of the technology. No official confirmation has been made as to whether the project is indeed just a test of the technology.
